The New Roanoke Jug Band takes its name and inspiration from the original Roanoke Jug Band that made some fabulous old-time recordings in the late 1920s. Todays group is comprised of three musicians: Jay Griffin (fiddle and washboard), Scott Baldwin (guitar, banjo, jug, and slide guitar), and Andrew Thomas (double bass). The realism of the sound produced by the NRJB in an un-sanitized and un-pasteurized fashion stands in stark contrast to the gizmos of the modern world. It is the essential, unpretentious form of human self-expression that connects the old-time and blues sound to Griffin, Baldwin, and Thomas. It is a music that is to be treasured and passed on.
